As students return to school, safety is everyone’s responsibility—whether you’re walking, biking, driving, or riding the bus. Here are five essential tips to help keep our kids safe:
- Stay Alert in School Zones: Slow down and watch for children crossing streets or walking between parked cars. Avoid distractions like phones while driving. Please DO NOT text and drive.
- Use the Buddy System: Encourage kids to walk or bike with a friend. There’s safety in numbers, and it helps build community.
- Practice Safe Pedestrian Habits: Teach children to use crosswalks, obey traffic signals, and make eye contact with drivers before crossing.
- Bike, Skater and Scooter Smart: Ensure kids wear properly fitted helmets and use bike lanes when available. Reflective gear and lights are a must for early mornings.
- Plan Pick-Up and Drop-Off Carefully: Use designated areas and follow school guidelines. Never double park or block visibility for others.
