Air Conditioner Installations

The Housing Facilities Office is now accepting maintenance requests to install your personal air-conditioner units. Before submitting your maintenance request, please note that the A/C installation fee is $50.00. This fee includes both the installation now and removal in the fall. The installation also includes a high-density foam block to seal the A/C in place and prevent bugs and moisture from getting into your apartment. Please be sure to state that you accept this service fee in your maintenance request. If you do not confirm the service fee, the service request will be rejected.

Eagle Heights and Harvey Street residents: you are welcome to install your air conditioner yourself in the provided air conditioner sleeve in your living room. You are not required to have our staff install it; however, the service is available. If you choose to install the A/C yourself, please make sure you use proper insulating materials around the air conditioner to prevent bugs and other pests from entering your apartment.

University Houses residents: the air conditioner needs to be properly placed in a window. Because your windows are double-hung, this also requires properly securing the windows. To ensure safety for anyone walking near or under the A/C, and to make sure the unit is positioned to drain to the exterior of the building, you must use a Housing-provided stand for the air conditioner.  Our staff will install one of your personal AC units at no charge in your University Houses apartment.  If you live in a townhouse in University Houses, we will install a second air conditioner; if you choose, the $50 service fee will apply.

To request an A/C installation, please submit the online form at https://www.housing.wisc.edu/apartments/maintenance/. Remember to state that you accept the $50 service fee in your request. Our office receives many A/C installation requests, and we are working as quickly as possible to get them installed. We will continue to install them in the order in which we receive the requests.

To ensure your A/C request is completed quickly, please be ready for the installation before requesting the work.  If the A/C is still in the original packaging, please remove it from the box. All A/C units should be placed on the floor next to the A/C sleeve for Eagle Heights and Harvey Street apartments (usually found on the wall in the living room covered by a metal plate). For University Houses apartments, please place the unboxed A/C under the desired window. The space around the air conditioner sleeve (or window) needs to be clear of furniture or other items so our staff can safely install the A/C unit. For liability reasons, our staff is not permitted to unbox or move air-conditioners for residents.

*Please note: University Apartments does not supply or sell air conditioner units. If you need help determining the correct A/C unit to purchase for your apartment, please contact University Apartments at university.apartments@housing.wisc.edu
