Eagle’s Wing staff recently brought a child safety issue to my attention, and I thought it was worthwhile to spread the news.

Many families in our community take advantage of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a nonprofit book-gifting program that mails free, high-quality, age-appropriate books to children from birth to four years old. It’s a great resource, and I encourage people to take advantage of it.

But there’s something to be cautious about:  Several books from that program were recently donated to the Community Center’s Little Free Library, and they still had mailing labels affixed. The problem? Those labels still had mailing information – including children’s names – affixed. University Apartments is a safe community, but I still don’t recommend distributing children’s names and addresses for anyone to find.

If you take part in the Imagination Library program, or others like it, please remember to remove or obscure anything that might contain children’s names and addresses before passing those books on.
