Middle School Soccer Club at The University of Wisconsin–Madison

Seeks Middle School students ages 11-14 | 5-Week Program for Students with Disabilities who may have limited access to organized soccer opportunities. Open to students in the Madison Metropolitan School District area, the program provides a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment where participants can develop soccer skills, build friendships, and enjoy physical activity. Enrollment is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Each session includes approximately 40 minutes of skill development followed by 30 minutes of game-like activities, allowing participants to practice skills in engaging and meaningful ways. The program is led by Dr. Michael L. Norris, Director of the Adapted Physical Education Minor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, former Division I soccer player, and experienced high school and club soccer coach. Dr. Norris’ graduate students in Kinesiology, and undergraduate students in the Physical Education Teacher Education Program facilitate all sessions. These volunteers are experienced physical educators, Adapted Physical Education specialists, and former soccer players or coaches.

Participants receive 1:1 or 1:2 coach-to-player support throughout the program, ensuring individualized instruction and encouragement. The first session focuses on player introductions, fun activities, and skill assessment. Subsequent weeks concentrate on key soccer skills including dribbling, passing, and shooting, with activities adapted to meet each participant’s needs and skill level. The final session provides opportunities to combine and apply these skills through soccer challenges and modified game play.

The goals of the Middle School Soccer Club-Madison are to:
• Develop soccer and ball-control skills (motor development assessment)
• Increase confidence and physical activity participation
• Promote socialization and friendship
• Encourage leadership among players during soccer sessions
• Create positive interactions between players, coaches, and peers
• Most importantly, have fun and enjoyable soccer experience

We look forward to helping participants learn new skills, make new friends, and experience the joy of soccer in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Sessions begin Thursday, Sept. 24 through Oct. 22 from 5-6:30 pm at UW Madison University Apartments Community Center 611 Eagle Heights Dr. Madison, WI.
There is no required fee, however, a suggested donation of $10.00 will be appreciated to help cover equipment and rental expenses.
