Kronshage, Humphrey, and Jorns Residence Halls Renovation
August 2026 – August 2029
Kronshage Residence Hall, which consists of eight smaller buildings, is home to over 620 residents in the Lakeshore neighborhood. Humphrey and Jorns Residence Halls, which are similar in design to the nearby buildings of Kronshage, house another 160 residents and will become integrated as two additional houses/buildings within Kronshage. The interiors of these buildings are planned to undergo a renovation to upgrade the resident spaces.
With the renovation, resident rooms will receive new windows, air conditioning, and individual temperature controls. Carpeting and light fixtures will be replaced for an updated look and feel, and lounge spaces will be renovated. The renovation will also address bathroom updates, exterior work, and accessibility improvements, and fire safety upgrades.

Impacts on Residents During Construction
Overall, we’ll do our best to work with contractors to make living in Kronshage a great experience and to minimize disruptions. Below are some important things we want residents to know will be happening during the 2026-27 academic year:
- During the full 2026-27 academic year, Conover House and Showerman House will be offline as phase 1 of the project. No residents will be assigned to these two buildings. The rest of Kronshage, including Humphrey and Jorns, will be occupied as normal.
- There will be no active construction work in any of the occupied houses of Kronshage for this project.
- Residents will not be moved for construction during the 2026-27 academic year.
- Some shared resources and common areas for Kronshage residents will be relocated, including the Residence Life Office, the Media Center, and laundry.
- As is typical with renovation projects, we anticipate activity, noise, odors, dust, vibration and additional traffic during construction hours, but we work hard to minimize disruption.
- We recommend students bring noise-canceling headphones to help with studying and online classes.
- In future academic years, Conover and Showerman will reopen, and other houses will go offline for the later phases of the renovation.
