Housing Spring Sweep

The University Housing Sustainability Committee is pleased to invite all Housing staff to participate in the 2026 Spring Sweep! The goal is to elevate Housing’s Stewardship core value through a free exchange of surplus or unwanted items between Housing departments before sending them to SWAP. Here’s how it works:
Step One
Clear out office spaces and supply rooms/closets of surplus or unwanted Housing-owned items. Check with your supervisor and colleagues in your area first to make sure there is not an existing need for that item in your shared space.
Accepted Materials
- Office & craft supplies
- Working electronics
- Small appliances
- Party & event supplies
- Housing-branded clothing
Please contact sustainability if you have larger items like furniture, filing cabinets, tables, etc. We’ll double check to make sure these items aren’t needed elsewhere and may coordinate a pickup directly from your location.
Unaccepted Materials
- Non-University Housing property
- Broken items
- Paints, paint removers, or other chemicals
- Liquids, powders, or aerosol sprays
- Equipment that contains mercury
- Mattresses
- Sharps & hazards
If you have any of these items in your spaces, please follow the protocol outlined here for recycling/disposal or reach out to sustainability with any questions.
Step Two
Drop off these items at one of the drop-off sites across campus between March 30-April 14. Each drop-off site will have labeled red carts where items can be placed.
- Ogg loading dock
- Frank Holt Center loading dock
- UA Facilities Warehouse
Step Three
Stop by the free exchange event on Wednesday, April 15 (10am-4pm in the Frank Holt Center Program Room) to pick up any items your office area may be in need of! Items at Spring Sweep are exclusively for departmental use, only to be used at work. Any claimed items must be picked up on the same day — we cannot offer holds.
Feel free to reach out to sustainability@housing.wisc.edu with any questions!
