Join our group of food service staff made up of talented professionals dedicated to providing our residents, staff, and visitors with nutritious meals made from locally sourced ingredients and produce.  As a Cook in University Housing you will:

  • Perform food production to include batch cooking, cook-to-flow, and made-to-order display cooking
  • Perform duties in a high-volume, dynamic, student residential dining environment
  • Interact with English speaking customers while displaying knowledge of food products, allergens and food safety
  • Demonstrate and role model exceptional customer service
  • Provide support and assist as needed in the implementation of plans and procedures in the event of an emergency

Work Schedule:

  • Multiple vacancies may be available
  • The primary schedule for this position typically consists of five, 8-hour shifts per week that may fall on any day of the week. Schedules may rotate every other weekend
  • Operational and work schedules will be closely aligned with the services and customer needs of the unit. As a result, work schedules may be adjusted during specific times of the year, including summer and winter break hours
  • This is a full-time ongoing appointment

  • 1st shift position(s): Typical schedule is 7:30am – 4:00pm, Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts, for total of 40 hours per week. Some positions include scheduled shifts every other weekend.
  • 2nd shift position(s): Typical schedule is 3:00pm-11:30pm, 8-hour shifts, for a total of 40 hours per week, including rotating holidays and weekend shifts.

They will often act as the first point of contact for students, staff, and parents with questions about dining operations and initiatives. Food Service Supervisors help lead the production of safe, quality food within residential dining facilities on the UW-Madison campus and ensure they meet customer satisfaction and departmental goals.  As a Food Service Supervisor in University Housing you will:

  • Prepare food (including display cooking) and beverages following predetermined menus, production sheets, and recipes for marketplaces and/or on and off-site catering
  • Perform duties in a high-volume, dynamic, student residential dining/catering environment
  • Interact with English speaking customers while displaying knowledge of food products, allergens and food safety

  • Drive food delivery trucks to efficiently transport staff and supplies to other units and/or events

Join the Housing Facilities team as an HVAC-R Mechanic!

The Mechanical Maintenance team repairs and maintains all mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and refrigeration systems in University Housing, serving the residents and guests who live and eat on the UW-Madison campus.  This position:

  • Assists and guides student workers
  • Communicates in English via radio and in person to emergency personnel
  • Performs HVAC diagnosis and advanced repair work in a variety of University Housing Buildings in both occupied and vacant spaces.
  • Performs duties in a highly diverse student and family housing community, including resident-occupied spaces, as well as in vacant and common areas
  • Responds to, and solves urgent or emergency sanitation, temperature, and safety issues in housing and dining units.
  • Leads assigned projects and activities to ensure satisfactory performance of mechanical systems
  • Coordinates and oversees the work of vendors, outside contractors, and physical plant staff in housing and dining facilities
  • Identifies and attends to seasonal and preventative maintenance requirements
  • Assists in creating, leading, and participating in a collaborative environment
  • Manages facilities records and databases
  • Drives vehicles to efficiently transport staff, move supplies, and urgently respond to emergency situations.
  • Provides after hours, weekend and holiday coverage as needed
  • Provides support and assists as needed in the implementation of plans and procedures in the event of an emergency

Work Schedule will be determined with the selected finalist upon hire. Primary schedule is Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00am – 5:00pm, with an on-call or weekend rotation as required by the department.

Work with a team of dedicated professionals focused on excellent customer service with no sales component.  Base hours are all daytime hours with flexible start time. We are seeking energetic and skilled candidates to provide leadership and support in maintaining, repairing and installing new or existing key structures and related work. This position takes the lead with locksmith service/repair requests.

Work includes responsibility of hard key systems and distribution, electronic building access database management as well as minor mechanical work. This position is essential to the safety and security of our spaces that serve University Housing staff and residents.

Work Schedule:

  • The primary schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:00am and 5:00pm, to be set upon hire. This position will also be in a rotating on-call schedule for after hours and weekend coverage.

Blue Collar Multi-Shift Openings

Blue Collar Multi-Shift (BCMS) is the transfer process for certain blue-collar positions within the division. Positions posted through the BCMS process are open to any University Housing employee who currently holds a position in the same title, with some exceptions.

To apply for a BCMS transfer, you will first need to complete a Request for Transfer form:

Option 1 – Apply Online:
Visit the Jobs Hub within Workday. Select the BCMS transfer position you are interested in. Click on “Apply” and follow the steps to submit your BCMS transfer application. Upload your Request for Transfer form as an attachment when you are applying within Workday
