An annual community event, the Mifflin Street Block Party, is set to take place on Saturday, April 26. Although this is not a University-sponsored event, we do see a large number of students who choose to attend. Due to the nature of this event, the behavior students engage in, and its proximity to several residence halls, University Housing will enact several policies in some residence halls that will be in effect on Saturday, April 26. The goal of these policies is to maintain the safety of residents and the community. During this time, several residence halls will implement additional measures such as check-in stations and additional staffing. All residence halls will have guest restrictions.
With events such as Mifflin we see an increase in student’s use of BORGs (Black Out Rage Gallons). When BORGs are present at events on/near campus, we have seen a much higher rate of students who need medical assistance due to alcohol poisoning and are then transported to a detox facility or hospital. We urge you not to make or drink from BORGs and to be prepared to fully cooperate with staff if you are caught with one (or any other alcohol container). Students who engage in behavior that is in violation of UW–Madison and/or Housing policies may be subject to disciplinary action.
If you or someone else is in need of assistance, or you are concerned about someone’s well-being, please call the House Fellow on Call phone number for your residence hall, UWPD (608-264-2677), or 911. University Health Services (UHS) also provides more information on campus alcohol resources.
