Hall Desks

Your hall desk is the center of the neighborhood. You can get questions answered, receive mail and packages, and check out items such as laptops, games, movies, tools, and vacuums. You will be able to sign up for hall events at hall desks, and Wiscard and room key issues can also be addressed there.

Our friendly desk staff is here to help you with any questions you may have about residence hall events, getting around campus, or general questions. Feel free to ask the desk any question, no matter how small. We’re always happy to help.

Equipment Check Out

Various games, movies, kitchen items, recreation equipment and other items are available to residents of each hall to check out at no charge. You will need your Wiscard (or another form of ID) to check out items. When you check out a piece of equipment, the desk staff will let you know when the item(s) must be returned. If items are not returned on time you will receive e-mail notifications. If this happens on three different occasions you will be banned from checking out items for two weeks. After the fourth overdue item you will be banned from checking out items for the remainder of the semester.

Keys and Wiscard Management

Your Wiscard is your official UW-Madison identification card. It provides access to libraries, recreation facilities, and your residence hall. It allows you to pay for food and other convenience store items at over 50 locations across campus. Your metal key provides you access to your room and to your mailbox.

If you have issues with your Wiscard or your room key, go to your hall desk to possibly receive a loaner key, depending on the key check out policy.

Hall Postings

Your residence hall provides you timely information regarding student organization activities and events on campus. All posters and brochures must be approved to be posted/distributed in the halls.

InfoLab

The desk offers three-day equipment checkout for laptops, projectors, digital cameras, and video camcorders. All equipment is checked out through the UW InfoLabs Checkout System. The equipment at the desk is only available to University Housing residents.

Mail and Packages

US Mail and all packages are received and distributed by your hall desk. Mail is placed in your mailbox. Packages are logged and placed on a shelf, and an email is sent to your wisc.edu account to notify you of your package. You must have your Wiscard (or another form of ID) with you to receive your package, but you do not need to print out the email notification. We are only able to receive packages for you. We are unable to hold packages for you to be picked up and sent out. Addresses for each residence hall are available on their individual hall pages.

Residents purchasing from Amazon can also choose to ship items to the Amazon pickup site connected to Sellery Residence Hall. Benefits of this option include secure, convenient pick-up, expedited delivery options, and free returns drop-off.
