Mail & Packages
Information About Your Mail & Packages
All mail and packages are received and distributed by your hall desk. Mail is placed in your mailbox or a file folder for you at the desk. Residents can mail out USPS letters from their front desks using the outgoing USPS Mail Slot.
Packages are logged, placed on a shelf, and an email is sent to your @wisc.edu account notifying you a package is available for pickup. If you haven’t received an email, your package is still being processed by our staff and is not ready to be picked up. You must have your Wiscard (or another form of ID) with you to receive your package, but you do not need to print out the email notification.
During breaks, our desks have very limited hours. We strongly encourage residents, friends, and family members to not ship packages to campus during these times.
Packages are only able to be received — we are unable to hold packages for you to be picked up by delivery companies and sent out after move-in. Residents are not allowed to send packages out from the package center/front desks so they will need to use the following locations for Delivery Drop-Offs to send out packages from their residence halls:
FedEx Onsite: 311 E Campus Mall (Walgreens)
UPS: 1360 Regent St
USPS (United States Postal Service): 441 N Lake St
Lakeshore Package Center
To help with multiple delivery locations in our Lakeshore neighborhood, we have a one-stop center specifically for only packages for residents living in Lakeshore (excluding Waters Hall – packages will be available at that front desk for residents). Residents can pick up their packages from the Lakeshore Package Center during their posted open hours.
How to Address Packages
To fix the issue of your packages being delivered to the wrong area, we ask that Lakeshore residents now start addressing your packages to the Lakeshore Package Center address (1650 Kronshage Dr.) and listing your hall, house and room number in the Address 2 line. Additionally, we ask that you please include your first AND last name when ordering packages. To do this, please follow the guide below when addressing your packages:
Example
Buckingham Badger
1650 Kronshage Dr.
Lakeshore Package Center, Bradley, Henmon, 434
Madison, WI 53706
Amazon Hub
Residents purchasing from Amazon can also choose to ship items to the Amazon pickup site connected to Sellery Residence Hall. Benefits of this option include secure, convenient pick-up, expedited delivery options, and free drop-off of returns.
Abandoned Packages
Once a resident moves out of the Residence Halls, residents will still be notified of the delivery and emailed using their @wisc.edu email for notification. If not picked up after 2 weeks, packages will be returned to the sender if the resident does not live on-campus. If unable to be returned to the sender, the package will be considered abandoned property after 60 days and discarded.
Medications
If you need to ship medicine that needs to be refrigerated, we strongly recommend contacting a local pharmacy to receive and store the items, as our desks are not open 24 hours a day and deliveries may be delayed in being processed.
If you need to send medication to the halls, we have selected Water Residence Hall as the central location to receive and store refrigerated medication. This location will serve all residence hall students on campus. We will have refrigerated space available ONLY at the Waters Residence Hall Desk. Please review the desk hours and ensure that deliveries are delivered directly to the desk while we are open.
Make sure that the resident’s name is on the package, it is marked as perishable, and is addressed to:
Residents Name
Residence hall name, residence hall house, room number (for whatever building they live in on campus)
C/O: Waters Hall Desk
1200 Observatory Dr.
Madison, WI 53706
Example:
Bucky Badger
Witte Washburne 1848
C/O: Waters Hall Desk
1200 Observatory Dr.
Madison, WI 53706
The resident will get an email and must go to the Waters Desk to collect their medication during desk hours.
During breaks, our desks have very limited hours. We strongly encourage residents, friends, and family members to not ship packages to campus during these times, particularly packages containing medication as they may not be processed in a timely manner.
Please be sure to update your auto shipments for medication.
Academic Year 2024-25 Breaks: Nov. 28 to Dec. 1; Dec. 20 to Jan. 20; March 22 to March 30.
Desks close for the summer: May 10
Perishable Packages
Desks will accept delivery of flower arrangements or baked goods. However, we are only able to hold perishable deliveries for a short time as there is no proper storage. If perishable deliveries are left at the desk for a period of time that could result in spoilage, they will be discarded. If we are forced to discard a perishable delivery, the resident will be given a 24-hour notice electronically to their @wisc.edu email address before it is discarded.
If you need to ship medicine that needs to be refrigerated, we strongly recommend connecting with a local pharmacy to receive and store the items, as our desks are not set up for refrigerated items.
During breaks, our desks have very limited hours. We strongly encourage residents, friends, and family members to not ship packages to campus during these times.

To avoid confusion and delays, mail & packages (*excluding Lakeshore residents, please see ‘How to Address Packages’ under the Lakeshore Package Center block to the left) should be addressed with:
Full preferred name (first and last)
Residence hall name, residence hall house, room number (available in My UW Housing)

Madison, WI, residence hall zip code (available on individual hall pages)
Example

*If you are unable to include the room number/house/hall in a separate line, please include the room number and hall behind the resident’s name. Example: Buckingham Badger, 6206 Ogg
*If any of the information listed above is missing from the label, there will be a delay in getting your mail/package.

Wiscard & Key
Your Wiscard is your official UW-Madison identification card. It provides access to libraries, recreation facilities, and your residence hall. It allows you to pay for food and other convenience store items at Housing dining markets and campus locations. Your metal room key provides access to your room and to your mailbox.
If you have issues with your Wiscard or room key, go to your hall desk to receive a loaner key (depending on the key check-out policy).
Key Check-Out Policy
The key(s) issued to you during your check-in process and the loaner keys throughout the year are for your personal use only. Your key(s) is not to be loaned to other people under any circumstances. The keys are the property of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and cannot be copied. For security purposes, keep your door locked when sleeping or when leaving the room. You are responsible for returning the key(s) to the Hall Desk upon checking out of your room. Failure to do so will result in a charge for a lock change.
A loaner key is available at the Hall Desk during business hours. Loaner keys are issued only to residents of the room who present proper identification. Loaner keys are not to be loaned to another person. Failure to return a loaner key 72 hours after it is issued can result in a lock change at the resident’s expense. Students will receive 2 free loaner keys per semester, but after the second loaner key/lockout each semester, the student will be billed $15.00 per occurrence.
When a room key or loaner key is lost or not returned on time, the lock is automatically changed. Residents who lose or fail to return their key will be billed $75.00 for the core change.
Hall Postings
Your residence hall provides you with timely information regarding student organization activities and events on campus. All posters and brochures must be approved to be posted/distributed in the halls. Please email deskservices@housing.wisc.edu for approval two weeks prior to your event.
Lost & Found
Any items that are left or found in residence halls can be turned in to the hall desks. If you have lost any items, please stop by the hall desk to report it missing and leave your contact information. If your item has identifying information on it, our desk staff will reach out to inquire if you have lost an item and request you come to the desk to claim it.
