Why Work for Housing

Hear What Our Students Say About Working with us

High Wages

We offer some of the highest student wages on campus. No position starts lower than $15.00/hour, and we offer a variety of promotional opportunities.

Recognition

2023 Rose Award Winners

Recognition of Outstanding Student Employees (ROSE) Award

Another way to earn some extra cash is by being a ROSE award recipient. During spring semester, your supervisor will have the opportunity to nominate top employees. If selected, you will attend our awards reception (with free food!) and get a recognition bonus of $300.

Student Recognition Award

Throughout the year, you will have the opportunity to be recognized for work performance that goes above and beyond the job duties of your position. You can be awarded up to $100 and are able to win this award multiple times!

Tax Savings

By working for University Housing, you are part of an even larger group – campus employment. By being a UW-Madison student and working on campus, you are eligible for an exemption from Social Security and Medicare taxes (FICA).

WiGrow

The WiGrow program provides each student with an opportunity to grow and recognize transferable skills they are acquiring through Housing employment. Intentional conversations are held between the students and the supervisor throughout employment, which build connections between what the student is experiencing at work and how it applies to their academics and future goals. These conversations let supervisors and students talk about goals and progress to be sure you’re achieving your objectives.

Discount on Food

University Housing student employees receive discount pricing on all prepared food purchased in any University Housing dining market. For locations and hours visit our dining pages.
