University Residence Halls are not currently accepting any additional housing contracts for the 2019-20 academic year. We are maintaining a waitlist for new requests and students who did not respond by the May 1 deadline, but we do not expect to be able to accommodate these requests based on our current numbers. Students still looking for accommodations will be directed to the Campus Area Housing Office, where they can find other housing options near campus.
Once you are formally admitted to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, we automatically send you a housing contract to live in one of our 20 residence halls. Be sure to follow the checklist provided so that you know when your contract is due. While there is no on-campus living requirement, over 90 percent of the incoming freshman class and roughly 7,800 residents fill our halls each academic year. Many returning students also choose to live with us beyond their first year, as well as transfer students. If you have plans to take classes during the summer, summer term housing in the residence halls can also be an option for you.
After submitting a signed housing contract and deposit, you’ll be able to submit hall preferences and select a roommate preference. When it comes to roommates, you may choose to meet someone new with a randomly assigned roommate or to live with someone you already know. You can also explore our 10 learning communities and see if any of their topic areas interest you.
