Once you are formally admitted to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, we automatically send you a housing contract to live in one of our residence halls. Be sure to follow the checklist provided so that you know when your contract is due. While there is no on-campus living requirement, over 90 percent of the incoming freshman class and roughly 8,500 residents fill our halls each academic year. Many returning students also choose to live with us beyond their first year, as well as transfer students when space allows. If you have plans to take classes during the summer, summer term housing in the residence halls can also be an option for you.
After submitting a signed housing contract and advance payment, you’ll be able to submit hall preferences and select a roommate preference. When it comes to roommates, you may choose to meet someone new with a randomly assigned roommate or to live with someone you already know. You can also explore our learning communities or affinity communities and see if any of their topic areas interest you.
